Mudeungsan National Park
Mudeungsan National Park was designated as the 21st national park in March 2013. It spans Gwangju, Hwasun-gun, and Damyang-gun in Jeollanam-do. The highest peak, Cheonwangbong, reaches 1,187 meters. The Columnar Joints on Mudeungsan Mountain, a designated National Monument, are particularly impressive. The mountain is adorned with royal azaleas and other azaleas in spring, touch-me-nots and hydrangeas in summer, vibrant autumn leaves and silver grass in fall, and snow in winter.
Naejangsan National Park
Known as the "Geumgangsan Mountain of Honam," this is Jeongeup’s most prominent mountain, famous for its breathtaking fall colors and one of the five major mountains of the Honam region. Notable sites include Byeongnyeonam Hermitage, where it is said that Chusa Kim Jeong-hui meditated; Uhwajeong Pavilion, a legendary pavilion that is said to have flown away on wings; Yonggul Cave, where the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and the portrait of King Taejo from Gyeonggijeon Shrine were hidden during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592; as well as Eunjeogam and Biraeam Hermitages.
